 m in Saalfelden. Shortly after her move from Madrid to New York in 2011—fa
 cilitated by a Fulbright scholarship—Marta Sanchez founded her quintet\, w
 hich for this evening even trumpeter Cuong Vu. A pianist of stunning proli
 ficacy as a composer—“Rising Star” of Downbeat’s critics’ poll in 2025 and
  also known for her work alongside David Murray—Sanchez recently told Jazz
 Times magazine how much she loves melodies\, but that “harmony is just as 
 important. If you put a melody that’s beautiful but predictable over a har
 mony that’s darker and unexpected\, the musical power shifts to the harmon
 y. And that’s when the piece becomes interesting.” There are indeed autumn
  bloomers that can be planted in August.
